Description

DAY-LIGHT Bright Light Therapy System.

The Bright Light Therapy System is a specially designed bright light therapy lamp recommended by doctors as the first line treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), or the "winter blues." Day-Lights help dispel the SAD blues and restore natural body rhythms disturbed by travel between time zones and working different shifts! Research shows that bright light therapy can relieve certain physical and emotional conditions by regulating internal biological rhythms - in other words, resetting our body clock during the fall and winter months. Lots of people are daylight deprived. Many people spend more than 23 hours of their 24 hour day indoors where illumination rarely exceeds twilight levels.

People who are daylight deprived include people who:
  • Live in northern latitudes where daylight hours are shorter during the winter months.
  • Live in cloudy or overcast areas where dark days are common.
  • Are homebound and cannot get outside easily.
  • Work at night or irregular work schedules.

People who are daylight deprived may experience one or more of the following:
  • Winter Blues - accompanied by low energy levels, moodiness, social withdrawal, or a general feeling of being down.
  • Difficulty falling asleep and waking up at the desired times, and a drowsy, tired feeling during the day, decreased alertness, and performance.
  • Trouble adjusting to an irregular work and travel schedule.
  • Possible craving for carbohydrates and associated weight gain.

People that can benefit from light therapy include sufferers of:
  • Seasonal Affetive Disorder (SAD) (also known as Winter Depression)
  • Subsyndromal SAD (also known as the Winter Blues)
  • Circadian sleep disorder
  • Lack of sleep due to shift work
  • Jet lag
  • PMS

Used in clinical research for over 10 years, Day-Lights conform to all standards set by light therapy experts - they provide the recommended 10,000 lux light dosage; the light source is delivered at an angle that mimics outdoor light; and they are 100% UV-filtered for safety. Twenty to thirty minutes each morning is all it takes to significantly improve energy levels and regulate sleep patterns. 10,000 lux for 30 minutes in the morning is what the experts recommend as a starting dosage for light therapy. Individuals may need to adjust the duration up or down from the 30 minute starting time, or use the light at a different time of day, depending on personal response to treatment.

The compact Day-Light casing can be used alone with the built-in, tilt-back stand, which also fits conveniently into standard carry-on luggage, or it can be mounted on the wall. The legs are removable and adjustable. It emits a white light with a comfortable color and smooth light diffusion. It has a high efficiency ballast to ensure that the light is flicker free. When used with adjustable legs, the light is projected downward. Experts recommend that the light sit above the user and project downward to bask the users head and shoulders in light. For optimum results, the light should be tilted at a 15 degree angle and the users eyes should be focused (without looking into the light) at the center of the Day-Light. Three-compact fluorescent light tubes (4,000 Kelvin) deliver 10,000 lux at 12 inches for light therapy usage. A two-way switch allows alternative 2-bulb, 7,000 lux setting. Spas can use the light in several ways. Light treatments can be offered as a stand-alone therapy or treatment. In addition, the Day-Lights can be installed in relaxation areas and reception areas to offer ambient light with the added benefit of ongoing light therapy.
