  • Wash all stones before each use.
  • Place a hand towel on the bottom of the SPA PRO water reservoir. Place all stones on top of the towel.
  • Before plugging appliance into outlet, add sufficient water, fill the water reservoir to just above the stones or fill to maximum capacity, but no more that 1-inch below the top rim. Turn the Temperature Control full counter clockwise. Place Cover on appliance.
  • Plug power cord into a standard 120 VAC grounded outlet. Turn the Temperature Control to "Preheat" position for about 20 to 30 minutes to speed warm up time. When the water reaches the desired temperature, turn the Temperature Control to the "Operating Range" to maintain the proper temperature.
  • Use an accurate thermometer to measure water temperature in the Water Reservoir to ensure that stones are at a proper therapeutic temperature. Consult a professional therapist for correct stone temperatures if you are unsure.
  • Carefully remove the first stone from the SPA PRO Water Reservoir. Test the temperature of the stone by touching it with your finger, then hold in your hand. The temperature should feel warm to the touch, but not uncomfortable.
  • When the therapy session is finished, turn the Temperature Control full counter- clockwise to turn unit off. Always unplug appliance when not in use.
  • Do not drop stones into the SPA PRO heating unit. This may damage the appliance. Use care when removing or replacing stones.
  • Do not apply warm stones to areas of your body that are inflamed.
About Hot Stone Massage:
A hot stone massage is a variation of traditional massage therapy. It is a physical practice with highly spiritual roots. Native Americans used fire to warm stones to relax their muscles. This type of massage has been used since ancient times, but it wasn't until Arizona massage therapist, Mary Nelson, introduced her massage technique called LaStone Therapy, that hot stone massage gained popularity. The heat from the stones increases the blood flow to the area being worked on. The heat also warms and relaxes the muscles, which enables the therapist to apply increased pressure if it is needed.

This therapeutic treatment not only provides muscle massage but also aids in mental relaxation calming the central nervous system. The stones used for hot stone massage are basalt stones, a black volcanic rock, which contain a high iron content and superb capability to retain heat. They are heated in the Spa-Pro Massage Stone Heater until they are at the appropriate temperature. The stones vary in size, shapes and weights. Different stones are used for different parts of the body. Because of this Spa-Pro offers two different size stone heaters - a 6 quart liquid capacity model and a much larger 18 quart capacity.

A stone massage is not simply sliding the heated stones along the surface of the skin, but the stones are used as tools to deliver effective tissue and muscle massage when used under pressure. Most discover the warmth of the basalt stones to be relaxing and rejuvenating. A hot stone massage is ideal for those who tend to be cold or have cold hands or feet. People who suffer from muscular tension also benefit from stone massage as the heat relaxes the muscles and allows the therapist to work the muscles without using deep pressure.

Popular reasons for getting a Spa-Pro Hot Stone Massage include:
  • Poor circulation
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Back pain and aches
  • Stress, anxiety and tension
  • Osteoarthritis and arthritis pain
The basalt stones used in hot stone massage are often found in river beds where they have been smoothed by flowing water after many years. Ideal stones are typically flat and all rough spots removed. Though the stones are usually smooth to the skin, often therapists use massage oil on the stones or on the skin so the stones glide even easier while massaging the muscles. The thermal conduction in the warm stones brings about local and systematic changes in the body and influences energy centers for mind and body balances. The energy and mineral content of the stones form a powerful synergy of healing energies as they physically relax the muscles and body.

A Spa-Pro Hot Stone Massage is a unique connection one can experience with nature, offering a sense of spiritual sacredness we too often forget. But please, do not take our word for this; you must experience it for yourself!
