OPI Powder Perfection uses a unique technology that is different from the technology found in acrylic enhancement products, such as Absolute. Although both systems have similar polymer powders, Powder Perfection does not use a liquid monomer initiator found in acrylic systems like Absolute. Instead, a liquid resin or base coat is used for adhesion. Powder Perfection then requires an Activator to accelerate the curing of the Base Coat and powders, and initiate the reaction with the Top Coat. This makes the Powder Perfection system ideal for protective overlays on the natural nail.

Is Powder Perfection made of the same ingredients as acrylic powders?
No. Both systems use a form of polymer powders, but the primary ingredient in Powder Perfection is polyethyl methacrylate, while traditional acrylic systems contain acrylate copolymers. Powder Perfection also uses resin and activator vs. a liquid monomer.

PRO TIP: Use OPI Powder Perfection as a protective overlay service for clients with weak, flexible nails that tear easily.

The Technology Of Opi Powder Perfection:

  1. OPI Powder Perfection uses the application of a resin in the form of OPI Powder Perfection Base Coat. It is formulated with primarily short chains of a very reactive monomer, ethyl cyanoacrylate.
  2. Nails are then dipped into an OPI Powder Perfection Powder. The powder sits on top and works its way into the thin layer of OPI Powder Perfection Base Coat which is still uncured. A second coat of OPI Powder Perfection Base Coat is applied then dipped again, creating a thicker application and achieving full coverage of color.
  3. A third coat of OPI Powder Perfection Base Coat is applied, then dipped into OPI Powder Perfection Clear Color Set Powder, providing a barrier to protect the Color Powder during filing and further strengthening the overall application.
  4. Next, the OPI Powder Perfection Activator is applied, starting the polymerization, or curing process. The monomers react into polymers adhering strongly to the nail and the powder strengthening the entire system.
  5. This first application of Activator is followed by contouring and buffing the nails. This can be achieved through filing and buffing techniques, but should not require the use of e-files when properly applied. Once the nails are shaped as desired, a second coat of OPI Powder Perfection Activator is applied.
  6. After the Activator is dry (1 -2 min), two coats of OPI Powder Perfection Top Coat are applied. The Activator immediately begins to cure the Top Coat and within minutes the entire system is cured.
  7. RESULTS The results show a protective overlay for the natural nail with built-in color that provides 2+ weeks of wear. The adhesion and ease of application makes OPI Powder Perfection the ideal choice for clients who desire strength, durability and long lasting color.

    How to Apply OPI GelColor:
The application process for any gel nail polish is similar to that of standard nail polish, but it requires certain products that are compatible with the gel polish. Applying OPI GelColor requires a special base coat, color, top coat, and curing light.

    Nail Preparation:

In order for OPI GelColor to properly adhere to the nail, the user must prepare the nail for application. For this particular polish, this means cleansing and dehydrating the nails thoroughly before polishing. Some people choose to use an OPI bonding agent as well for extra adherence. If using a buffer to smooth the nail surface, users must also be careful to wipe all nail dust from the nail bed before proceeding. Finally, it is necessary to clean the surface of the nail using an alcohol wipe, which serves to dehydrate the nail and help the gel polish last.

    OPI GelColor Application:

For proper application, users should apply the OPI GelColor base coat to the nails and then cure the base coat under an LED light. The curing should take approximately 30 seconds. The color layer goes on top of the cured base coat and should cure for 30 seconds under the LED light. Finally, users must apply the GelColor top coat and once again cure the nails under the LED light for 30 seconds. During application, users should apply both the base coat and top coat to the free edge of the nail in order to seal the manicure.

    OPI GelColor Removal:

Removal of OPI GelColor is more time consuming than standard polish because the color is sealed so securely to the nail. To remove GelColor at home, users may soak a cotton ball in acetone and then apply it to the surface of the nail. Wrapping a piece of aluminum foil around the cotton ball holds it in place for the required time. After approximately 10 minutes, users can check and see if the polish has soaked off sufficiently. If not, it may be necessary to leave the acetone on the nail surface for a few more minutes, checking the progress periodically.
